Our Favorite Beaches

Prune Bay Beach

Prune Bay Beach is our local neighborhood beach.  It is a long beach that faces Buck Island just below our home.  At the north end, there is a picnic table, lounge chairs & a great place to have a lunch. There are very few people on the beach at the same time so it's very relaxing & private.  It's just a short walk down the road. Sea turtles next on our beach so be careful to stay away from an large indentations in the sand & any marked nests!

Chenay Bay Beach

Chenay Bay Beach, or Southgate Beach, is located between Bungalows on the Bay and Green Cay Marina on the East End of St. Croix. You can walk to this beach by going through our Green Cay neighborhood & taking a small trail across to Bungalows.  You can enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and other water sports and activities here. It does have a grassy bottom close to shore, which makes it the perfect environment for starfish, conch and sea turtles.  There is plenty of shade and there are beach chairs to lounge on as well as a dock & they sometimes have a big floating island tied off to a mooring spot in the bay.  There is also a beach bar & a small restaurant that is outdoor & very casual.  They have breakfast, lunch & dinner.  They often have music in the gazebo & have special themed nights like bingo & karaoke night. This is a great beach for young children, as the water is shallow and calm.

Grotto Beach - At the Buccanneer

Grotto Beach is at the Buccaneer Hotel on the northwest side of the property.  You go through the main gates & tell security you are going to have lunch at the beach.  Follow signs to the hotel swimming pool (Grotto Pool) & to Beauregard's Restaurant.  This is long beach that wraps around the bay, so you can walk quite a distance.  There are alot of sea urchins so pay attention to where you are stepping!  The restaurant is great & on the beach. You can buy a "day pass" to use the hotel pool & chairs/loungers & to be served drinks on the beach.

Mermaid Beach -          At The Buccanneer

Mermaid Beach is at the Buccaneer.  You go through the main gates & tell security guard you are going to have lunch at the beach.  It is a Palm-shaded and protected beach. There is a restaurant there, Mermaid Restaurant open to the public.   You can rent chairs/umbrellas & the hotel's water-sports center is here.  They have a fire dancer show one night a week here with a special dinner to go along with the show.

Shoy's Beach

Shoys Beach is a picturesque stretch of white sand overlooking the Caribbean waters and makes for a great getaway for the day. There are no amenities, so bring a chair, pack a cooler with lunch & drinks.  It's quiet,  secluded and the waters are calm for most of the year.  The bottom is generally sandy and grassy which makes for good swimming conditions. It's a great place to paddleboard or take a pool float to relax in the sea as well. You turn into the Buccaneer property gates, but just before you get to the guard shack you veer right to another guard shack & tell them you are going to Shoys beach.  Continue up the hill & around then east on Shoy's Beach Road to the end & there is a parking area.  It's just a short walk through a groomed tunnel of seagrape to the beach.  There is also plenty of shade from the seagrape trees and other foliage that lines the beach.

Jack and Isaac Bay Preserve Trailhead

Jack and Isaac Bays are the living embodiment of what you imagine a quintessential Caribbean beach to be, but there is a bit of hike required to get to them. Once you do get there, you will find picturesque beaches of soft, white sand, surrounded by the turquoise Caribbean Sea and a barrier reef teeming with marine life.  Even better, the remote nature of these bays provides seclusion which can make you feel like you have the entire beach to yourself.

Sandy Point Beach

Sandy Point is a Nat'l Wildlife Refuge.  It's open on weekends & holidays only September-March. It is closed for turtle nesting April-August. This beach is absolutely stunning. It boasts crystal clear blue water and a 2 mile long stretch of sandy white beach - one of the longest in the Caribbean.

Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach is on the west end of St. Croix. There is plenty of parking available and a restaurant/bar where you can order food and drinks. There is usually live music, and a volleyball net set up on the beach for players. This can be a noisy beach especially on Sundays "Sunday is Funday". The water is typically calm, so this is a good spot for snorkeling, and paddle boarding, and there are jet ski rentals located here.

Cane Bay Beach

Cane Bay Beach is a popular hang out for locals and visitors alike. It is also a popular place for families to spend time with their kids, and dogs.  There are also several bars & restaurants close to the beach. Scuba diving and snorkeling are the most popular pastimes here, as Cane Bay offers easy access from the shore to great snorkeling, and shore diving the world famous "Wall".
